One of the true classics in the history of cinema! This perfect screenplay by Lucas, Kaufman and Kasdan is a true wonder.

Michael De Luca (10 out of 10 )
A cinematic masterpiece, to be sure. Kasdan and Co took that Matinee spirit and added that ol' Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid irreverence and subversion of genre. But one quibble: No matter how much George Lucas bitches, whines and tinkers, the name of the script and the name of the movie is and always will be "Raiders of the Lost Ark", not "Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark". First the man makes Greedo shoot first, then he, for reasons of a transparent and anal nature, thinks he can change the name of one of the greatest adventure films of all time. Bullshit on that!

Cliff Francis (10 out of 10 )
One of the greatest movies. I can watch it over and over. I love the historical related adventure, it leaves you with a great feeling after the movie is over. All the actors and scenes are gold.

It has it all! The comedy, The action, (The mild violence, language and horror!) and the greatest archaeologist in film:Indiana Jones! Indy's first adventure may not be as good as The last Crusade but it still appears as an instant classic. If you like the first, see the two sequels too.

What makes a great movie? I'd rather not say but this sure is one of them. Plausibility. Soundtrack. How you feel. More to be sure but I'm sure me being 10 or so at time of view helped as well. For some reason, this is in my top few movies in terms of how well it was produced. Vicarious improbable transportation. Incidentally, apparently, the ark works something like that.

This is a truly excellent film, with a truly excxellent shooting script. It's too bad that this isn't the said shooting script, but is a draft, and apparently a very early one. So much about the final film is different, and this draft don't really have the magic of the shooting script.
