OMIGOD can Nicolas Cage act in this! POWERFUL film. I didn't want to drink for a month after seeing this. Really nice cinematography. What I really liked about this story was just when you thought it was going to reduce into some schmaltzy love story there is a trainwreck. Like the scene where they stay at the motel in the desert and have just a loving magic moment watching an old black & white movie outside by the pool and then the next day they are throw out of the motel. You think he will stop drinking all thru the movie, but...

This movie rocks. Nick Cage definitely deserved every accolade for his work in this movie. Elisabeth Shue is incredibly hot (and not just because she reminds me of my ex). She too did a fantastic job, she's definitely come a long way from the Karate Kid. This movie takes you on roller coaster ride through the surreal that explores the "darker" side of the human condition. Watching Ben and Sera, two twisted souls, reach out to one another for some kind of peace, gives you the impression that they are the last two people on earth who are truly living miserable, painful lives. Unfortunately this tale does not have a happy ending, it's simply a story of two people with utterly miserable lives who have found each other in a place where many lives have changed for the worst.

BEAUTIFUL FILM! It doesn't insult your intelligence like most films do. All of Figgis's movies are good like this. Silly ending of course as most films end stupidly. Great soundtrack wil make you want to drink. This movie is a work of art.

I watched it drunk in a hotel room with a prostitute, so you can imagine that I have the deepest appreciation for this film. However in real life, the hooker leaves and I die by myself masturbating. Now that is a tragedy.

The charm of Elisabeth Shue is fantastic in this film.
